The Paul B. Habans Elementary School project, built for the Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District, included the new construction of a three-story, 109,633-square-foot elementary school located in New Orleans, LA. The facility, now known as the Paul Habans Charter School, houses 788 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The project features a gymnasium, media center, music rooms, science laboratories, and an outdoor commons area. The elementary school achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainability and energy efficiency. The elementary school was constructed on a composite piles foundation with a structural steel frame, an exterior of masonry and metal wall panels, and a modified bituminous roof. Constructed as part of CORE’s efforts to restore school facilities in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Paul B. Habans Elementary School project now offers a modern and state-of-the-art educational facility to the community.
