The Avery Alexander Elementary School project, built for the Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District, included the new construction of a three-story, 104,479-square-foot elementary school located in New Orleans, LA. The facility, now known as Pierre A. Capdau Charter School at Avery Alexander Elementary, houses 405 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The project features classrooms, laboratories, a gymnasium, industrial kitchen, and library. The elementary school achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its sustainable building design and construction. The elementary school was constructed on an auger cast pile and concrete slab-on-grade with a non-post tension foundation with a steel structural frame, an exterior of brick and metal panel façade, and a modified bitumen roof with a stud and sheathing membrane. The Avery Alexander Elementary School project now provides a fully modernized school in place of a facility previously destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
