The Drew Elementary School Renovation project, completed for the Louisiana Department of Education Recovery School District, included various demolition, additions, restorations, and renovations to the three-story, 69,000-square-foot elementary school campus located in New Orleans, LA. The facility houses approximately 200 primary grade students. The project included the demolition of original walls, floors, mechanical equipment, and electrical systems and replacement of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The school also features new window glass, an automatic sprinkler system, a state-of-the-art fire alarm system, two restroom towers, a library reading room, a courtyard play area, covered walkways, and two ADA compliant ramps. The project achieved LEED Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for energy efficiency and sustainability. The elementary school was constructed utilizing a concrete foundation and a concrete masonry unit block structural frame. It features an exterior of brick and stucco and a standing seam membrane roof. Due to CORE’s construction efforts, Drew Elementary School now stands fully restored to serve members of the Bywater District of New Orleans after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
