With the goal of increasing sustainability, ADA accessibility, and the undergraduate education experience, the Arizona State University Bateman Physical Sciences D and E Wing Renovation was a transformative project on the university’s Tempe campus. The project included the complete renovation of 88,000 square feet of research and classroom laboratories, all while maintaining a protection in place of the NanoSIMS Lab, focused on studying meteorites, located in the basement of the building’s D Wing. With some portions of Bateman complex being over 50 years old, new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were required throughout, new finishes and laboratory casework was installed to modernize the spaces, and restrooms were updated to become code compliant. A new roof system was also installed, complete with a new structural steel mechanical duct support system. Additionally, the project featured two new stair towers, some structural modifications, and a renovation to the courtyard. The Bateman Physical Sciences D and E Wings now provide a modern atmosphere to support academic excellence and ongoing research in the natural science and engineering fields.
