The Kitt Recital Hall project, built for Northern Arizona University, included selective demolition and renovations in addition to a new two-story, 21,291-square-foot performing arts center located in Flagstaff, AZ. The new facility supports band and choral classrooms, a 250-seat hall, rehearsal spaces, and instrument libraries. The interior features masonry walls as well as furred-out, double-width sound isolation walls. Site work included the removal of an exterior ramp, underground storm water and sewer lines, landscaping, and hardscaping. This project achieved LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for energy efficiency and sustainable features. The performing arts center was constructed with a foundation of reinforced concrete footings with drilled caissons and a structural steel and masonry frame. An exterior insulation and finish system with a coated foam with granular top coat roof completed the construction. The Kitt Recital Hall now provides a modern environment for musical expression, educational opportunities and cultural experiences for the university’s students and faculty, and the Flagstaff community.
