The Sunshine Elementary School project, built for the School Board of Orange County Florida, included the new construction of a multi-story, 88,900-square-foot elementary school campus in Orlando, FL. This prototype elementary school provides accommodations for 837 students, and is home to the mascot the Sun Ray, whose goal, alongside the staff, is to “shine” on students, making it a positive and safe learning environment for the community’s children. The campus features classrooms, skills/resource laboratories, art, music, administration spaces, a kitchen, a dining/multi-purpose room, a media center, support spaces, athletic facilities, and play areas. The construction consisted of a concrete foundation with a concrete tilt-wall system, an exterior of concrete, a single-ply over the lightweight insulated concrete roof, and a standing seam roof for the pre-engineered metal building. The elementary school sits on five acres of land that was cleared, fenced, and seeded for a future three-story, 50,000-square-foot administrative office building for the district.
