The City of Richardson Fire Station No. 4 project included the new construction of a four-bay, 14,090-square-foot fire station. The facility serves as the base for the Special Operations Team for the City and is equipped to staff a minimum of 10 firefighters and to house ambulance and heavy rescue vehicles. The station includes drive-through bay access, officer quarters, dormitories, an open kitchen and dining room, a shower and locker room, a fitness room, and a courtyard patio. The project features a long covered porch directing visitors to the entry lobby, stone-clad pylons with steel pipe struts supporting a large roof overhang highlighting the apparatus bays, natural daylighting, and polished concrete floors. The fire station was constructed of a piers and structural slab foundation with a steel frame, a standing seam roof, traditional roof forms, brick details, and rough-cut stone combined with stained wood, exposed steel, and modern detailing to help bridge the stylistic gap between the existing buildings. City of Richardson Fire Station No. 4 is an aesthetically pleasing, high-quality station that now provides additional fire safety resources to the community.
