The Fitness and Recreational Center project, built for Texas Women’s University, included the new construction of a 40,657-square-foot wellness center located on the University’s campus in Denton, TX. The facility functions as a centralized location for recreational sports and fitness training for students, faculty, and staff. The project features a full-sized National Collegiate Athletic Association compliant basketball court, two weight training rooms, a climbing wall with rappelling station, locker rooms, a lounge for video gaming and socializing, group exercise rooms, meeting rooms, and offices. The wellness center was constructed on a case drilled piers foundation with a concrete frame and modified bitumen roof. The project achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainable features, optimized energy performance, and indoor environmental air quality. Due to CORE’s efficient project coordination with University officials and staff, the Fitness and Recreation Center project was completed without hindering student pedestrian traffic around the construction area.
