The Katherine Mecham Barney Elementary School project, built for Queen Creek Unified School District, included the new construction of a 72,378-square-foot elementary school campus located in Queen Creek, AZ. The new campus houses two separate two-story classroom buildings, which house students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The facility includes a smart lab/STEM area, a multipurpose building with administrative offices, and a cafeteria/gymnasium combination space with a stage and music rooms. The elementary school was constructed on a concrete foundation supported by footings and masonry stem walls with a structural frame comprised of concrete masonry unit block and steel, a metal panel soft overhang, and a TPO standard roof. The new school meets the Queen Creek Unified School District’s goal of creating a twenty-first century learning environment in the brand new Fulton Development of Barney Farms, and provides modern classrooms, supporting resource centers, and playground spaces to promote creative learning and exploration.
