The Franklin Square Elementary School project, completed for Greater Clark County Schools, included the historic two-story renovation of the Jeffersonville High School gymnasium and the new construction of a 24,000-square-foot addition which connects the existing elementary school to the adjacent field house in Jeffersonville, IN. The project features three classrooms for each grade, kindergarten through fifth, and houses a pre-kindergarten program, exceptional education classrooms, and a media center. At the center of the school, located in a daylight-filled open atrium space, CORE installed a two-story spiral slide which serves as a unique merit-based privilege for students to enjoy. The project was constructed of load-bearing concrete with a structural steel frame, brick veneer exterior, and insulated foam roofing. Due to CORE’s seamless execution of the client’s vision, Franklin Square Elementary School now provides a unique learning space which complements the adjacent historic structures while also showcasing new contemporary touches to mirror the school’s modern approaches to learning.
