The House and Senate Chambers at the Illinois State Capitol project, built for the Illinois Capital Development Board, included the renovation of 19,458 square foot legislative chambers located in Springfield, Illinois. The facility contains the State of Illinois’ House and Senate Chambers and functions as an assembly room for the State’s legislative branch. The legislative chambers were constructed of new millwork, metal handrails, wood paneling, plaster ceilings, painting, carpet, marble columns, and circular art glass. A new lay light assembly with an attic-located light gauge steel and gypsum board enclosure box completed the construction. The project also features the installation of new theater seating, member desks, speaker podiums, and indirect lighting, replacement of the heating ventilation and air conditioning systems in both houses, and removal of asbestos. This project received the 2007 Director’s Award for Pride in Partnership, the State of Illinois, the 2008 Architect Woodwork Institute (AWI) Standard of Excellence Award for Public Facility Project, and the 2008 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honor Award for Interior Architecture.
